Denise is passionate about simplifying complexities. She specializes in Governance, Ethics, Risk and Compliance and presents a strong base of experience in these areas, having led Corporate Governance and Risk Management functions within large enterprises. She has worked in a number of countries, with special experience in and a passion for Africa.

Her journey in Corporate started in audit 20 years ago. After completing her articles at one of the Big 4 (performing external and internal audits for various private and public sector clients), she spent 2 years in London, doing mainly performance indicator audits for the UK Audit Commission.

Back in South Africa, she spent quite a few years in consulting before venturing into the world of Risk Management in 2006.

Below is some of her experience since then:

• She played a coordination and monitoring role for implementing internal risk and compliance policies across 15 countries in sub-Sahara Africa.
• She was part of a global team performing compliance reviews and risk assessments. This allowed her to live out her passion of travelling, since it took her to about 20 countries (including Nigeria, Ghana, India, France, Egypt, Guatemala) over about a 5 year period.
• She was responsible for the establishment of a Governance and Risk Management function for a large corporate’s Africa businesses. She established the team and worked with a network of fraud and risk resources across 12 countries in sub-Sahara Africa, with responsibilities spanning Governance, Ethics, Risk and Controls. Practical implementation was key for embedding risk management in the organisation.
• During this time, some specific responsibilities included designing and implementing Risk Management frameworks and structures, Risk Reporting, Business Continuity, IT Governance, Fraud Management, Insurance and King IV implementation.

She is a CA(SA) with a Diploma in Corporate Governance from ACCA (UK) and a International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management (IRM UK).

As part of the Tiisa management team, Denise prides herself in being a trusted advisor and business partner to company leadership – identifying risks, implementing practical mitigations and contributing to embedding a strong ethical and risk culture.
